The tafsīr in brief

The Prophet ﷺ is addressed directly: when you divorce women, do so for the start of their waiting period and count it carefully; fear Allāh, do not expel them from their homes, and do not let them leave except for open indecency. When the term nears completion, either retain them honourably or separate honourably, with two just witnesses. Whoever fears Allāh, He will make for him a way out, and provide for him from where he does not expect.

• When emotions run high, pause to check Allāh’s limits rather than letting hurt determine the timing and conduct of divorce.
• Do not turn a strained relationship into permission to mistreat someone: respect the rules about the home and preserve kindness whether staying together or separating.
• Treat testimony as a responsibility before Allāh, not as a tool for securing a preferred outcome.
• When a family problem seems to have no clear solution, keep acting with taqwā and rely on Allāh rather than assuming that only the options you can see are possible.

The tafsīr in brief

For women past the age of menstruation, or who have not yet menstruated, the ʿiddah is three months; for the pregnant, it ends with delivery. Whoever fears Allāh is given ease in his affair. Maintenance is then apportioned by means: the wealthy spends from his wealth, and the one whose provision is restricted spends from what Allāh has given him, for Allāh does not burden a soul beyond what He has given it — and after hardship, Allāh will bring ease.

• When circumstances differ, seek the ruling that actually applies rather than assuming one procedure fits everyone. Following that guidance is part of mindfulness of Allāh.
• Do not turn housing, money, or childcare arrangements into tools of pressure after divorce. Protect rights and discuss practical needs fairly.
• Match financial support to real resources: limited means do not erase responsibility, and greater means call for spending accordingly.
• Face financial difficulty with responsibility and hope. Allāh’s promise of ease is not confined to the household situation discussed here.

How many towns arrogantly refused the command of their Lord and His messengers, so He called them to a severe account and punished them with a terrible punishment. They tasted the consequence of their own conduct, and the outcome of their conduct was loss. Placed among rules for divorce and maintenance, the reminder warns that treating Allah's household commands lightly is the same disposition that ruined whole towns.

• Treat Allāh’s instructions about family responsibilities as commands to honour, not details to brush aside when they become inconvenient.
• Let the account of earlier communities prompt you to examine your own response to guidance, rather than treating their history as someone else’s concern.
• Consider where a choice leads, not just what it offers now: rebellion carries consequences tied to the conduct itself.
• Respond to a warning while you can still change course; do not put off correction until all that remains is regret.

The tafsīr in brief

Allāh has sent a Messenger reciting clear verses, to bring those who believe and do righteous deeds out of darknesses into light, admitting them into gardens beneath which rivers flow forever. The surah then closes by naming the One who created seven heavens and their like of earth, His command descending between them, so that people may know His power and that His knowledge encompasses everything.

• Let warnings about past disobedience prompt an honest check of your own choices, rather than treating them only as accounts of other people.
• When you read revelation, identify a righteous action it calls for and put it into practice; faith and conduct belong together.
• Keep accountability and hope together: the warning against defiance is followed by the promise of lasting provision for those who believe and do good.
• Treat household responsibilities as part of obedience to Allāh, not as a private area exempt from His authority; the One who governs creation also legislates family life.
