What are the 99 names?
Asma ul Husna means the most beautiful names. The Qur'an says the most beautiful names belong to Allah and calls us to turn to Him by them (Qur'an 7:180). Each name describes something true of Him — His mercy, His knowledge, His power, His care — so that when you ask, you know who you are asking.
The list of ninety-nine is an enumeration reported from the Prophet ﷺ in the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه (Sunan al-Tirmidhī 3507). The Qur'an does not set the names out as a numbered list, and the beautiful names are not limited to this number.
Below, the list as it is kept here is shown — every name with its meaning in English, its Arabic, and the sūrahs where the word itself is used. Enumerations differ slightly between lists; this one comes to a hundred. Start with a name you already say in prayer — ar-Raḥmān, al-Laṭīf — or simply read down the list.

Common questions
What are the 99 names of Allah?
The 99 names of Allah — Asma ul Husna, the most beautiful names — are the names by which Allah describes Himself in the Qur'an and the Sunnah. Each name tells you something true about Him: His mercy, His knowledge, His power, His care. The Qur'an says the most beautiful names belong to Allah and calls us to call on Him by them (Qur'an 7:180).
How many names of Allah are there?
A well-known ḥadīth in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim says Allah has ninety-nine names, and whoever keeps them enters Paradise. Scholars have explained that this counts the names in that particular list, not a limit — the Qur'an describes Allah by more than ninety-nine words. Lists differ slightly between scholars; the list on this page comes to a hundred.
What does Asma ul Husna mean?
Asma ul Husna is Arabic for the most beautiful names. It comes from Qur'an 7:180: the most beautiful names belong to Allah, so call on Him by them. Each name is a way of knowing who you are speaking to when you make du'ā.
What is the benefit of learning the names of Allah?
The ḥadīth promises Paradise to whoever keeps the ninety-nine names — understood by scholars as learning them, understanding what they mean, and living by them: trusting al-Razzāq for provision, turning to al-Ghafūr when you slip, asking al-Shāfī for healing. On this site each name opens a page with its meaning, the tafsīr reasoning behind it, and every sūrah where the word itself appears.
