Why Allah uses this name
Ibn Kathīr reads in 96:3 as generosity so complete it teaches the ignorant what he did not know — the first revelation's argument for reading.

Approach Him expecting generosity; that is how He described Himself when teaching began.
'Read, and your Lord is the Most Generous, who taught by the pen, taught man what he knew not' (96:3–5).
