Creating and giving life
Al-Mumīt ٱلْمُمِيت
The Bringer of Death: the One who takes life at its appointed term.
Reported in the list of ninety-nine · root م و ت
Why Allah uses this name
Named alongside throughout the Qurʾān; Al-Saʿdī notes that both are acts of the Living who does not die, so death is an appointment, not an accident.
Take this with you
Death is His act at a fixed time. Fear the state you meet it in, not the timing of it.
'And it is He who gives life and causes death (yuḥyī wa yumīt), and His is the alternation of the night and the day' (23:80).
Qurʾān 23:80; the name itself listed in Sunan al-Tirmidhī 3507 (the enumeration of the ninety-nine names)
Where it appears in the Qur'an
This name is reported in the list of ninety-nine, but the Qur'an says it as a verb or a phrase rather than as this single word, so there is no word-for-word occurrence to list. The reasoning above cites the āyāt it is taken from.
