Justice and judgement
Al-Muntaqim ٱلْمُنتَقِم
The Avenger: the One who exacts retribution from the guilty who persist after warning.
Reported in the list of ninety-nine · root ن ق م
Why Allah uses this name
The Qurʾān places it after mention of the one reminded of his Lord's āyāt who then turns away — retribution follows warning, never precedes it.
Take this with you
Do not mistake time given for permission granted.
'And who is more unjust than one reminded of the āyāt of his Lord, then he turns away from them? Indeed We, from the criminals, will take retribution (muntaqimūn)' (32:22).
Qurʾān 32:22; the name itself listed in Sunan al-Tirmidhī 3507 (the enumeration of the ninety-nine names)
Where it appears in the Qur'an
This name is reported in the list of ninety-nine, but the Qur'an says it as a verb or a phrase rather than as this single word, so there is no word-for-word occurrence to list. The reasoning above cites the āyāt it is taken from.
