Care, nearness and protection

An-Nūr ٱلنُّور

The Light: the One by whom the heavens and the earth are lit, and by whom hearts see.

Why Allah uses this name

Ibn Kathīr reports from Ibn ʿAbbās رضي الله عنهما that the meaning is that He guides the people of the heavens and the earth — light read as guidance, not as physical brightness.

Take this with you

Guidance is something you are given, not something you generate. Ask for it in every rakʿah.

'Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth' (24:35).
