The tafsīr in brief

The sūrah opens by swearing by the clear Book itself: it was sent down in Arabic so the people first hearing it could understand it, and its origin is with Allah, high above any fault.

• Let the opening direct your attention to the revelation itself: approach the clear Book ready to listen and learn.
• Make understanding part of your Qur’an study, rather than treating its words as something to recite without considering their meaning.
• Let respect for the Qur’an show in obedience, not only admiration for its noble status.
• Do not use your own wrongdoing as a reason to avoid the reminder. Receive its challenge as a reason to reconsider your conduct.

Allah comforts the Prophet ﷺ: every prophet before him was laughed at too, and peoples far stronger than Quraysh were destroyed when they kept on denying.

• When facing ridicule for following the truth, remember that the prophets also faced mockery; opposition need not leave you feeling alone.
• Examine a message rather than dismissing it through ridicule. Mockery is not a substitute for understanding.
• Do not mistake strength or influence for protection from accountability.
• Read the accounts of earlier peoples as lessons for your own response to guidance, not merely as events belonging to the past.

Even the deniers admit Allah made the heavens and the earth. So the sūrah points to His care in the everyday: the earth laid out like a cradle, rain sent in measured amounts, and animals and ships made safe to travel on — with a du'ā to say when you set off.

• Let recognising Allah as the Creator shape your worship: His gifts should direct you to Him, not to rivals beside Him.
• Notice care in ordinary necessities. A supportive earth and measured rain are reasons for gratitude, not benefits to take for granted.
• Let the revival of barren land remind you that life here is not the end: Allah will raise us, and we will return to Him.
• Make using transport an occasion for remembrance. Enjoy the benefit while acknowledging the Lord who made it available.

They claimed the angels were Allah's daughters while hating daughters for themselves. Their own attitude exposes the claim, and they will be asked what evidence they ever had for it.

• Speak about Allah and His angels only on a sound basis, remembering that unsupported religious claims carry accountability.
• Examine whether your beliefs are being shaped by personal preferences or social prejudices. The passage exposes people who projected their own distorted standards onto Allah.
• Do not treat the fact that an action happened as proof that it is right. An appeal to Allah’s will cannot replace knowledge when defending your conduct.

Their only argument is that their fathers did it. The sūrah shows this was the excuse of the wealthy in every town a warner came to, even when offered something better.

• Ask what supports a religious belief. Being familiar or inherited does not, by itself, make a belief grounded in revelation.
• Do not let wealth or social standing decide whose religious claims deserve acceptance. Affluent leaders can repeat unsupported claims just like anyone else.
• Examine whether you are genuinely willing to accept better guidance, rather than defending a conclusion you have already decided never to change.
• Take the consequences of rejecting guidance seriously. An inherited excuse does not remove responsibility for refusing the truth.

Ibrāhīm عليه السلام cut himself off from everything his people worshipped and held to the One who created him — a word of pure worship he left behind for his descendants to come back to.

• Measure inherited religious practices against worship of Allah alone; family acceptance does not make false worship right.
• Look to Allah for guidance, remembering that the One who created you is the One Ibrāhīm trusted to guide him.
• Pass on a clear understanding of faith: both what worship of Allah alone affirms and what it rules out.
• Use reminders of pure monotheism as opportunities to return when you stray, rather than merely as words to preserve.

Allah let Quraysh and their fathers enjoy life for a long time. When the truth and a clear Messenger ﷺ finally came, they brushed it aside as magic.

• Do not mistake a comfortable life or a long-established way of living for proof that your beliefs are sound.
• Receiving clear guidance is not the same as accepting it. Meet its challenge with willingness to reconsider your position.
• Watch for pride and envy when you resist correction; the obstacle may lie in your response rather than in the teaching.
• Examine a message before attaching a dismissive label to it. A label is not an answer to its truth.

They expected revelation to go to the richest man of Makkah or Ṭāʾif. Allah answers that He, not they, decides who receives His mercy, and that gold and silver are only the comfort of this life.

• Do not let someone’s wealth or social standing decide whether you accept the truth they bring. People do not choose whom Allah grants prophethood.
• View differences in livelihood as a reason for mutual service, not as a reason to consider yourself independent of others.
• When impressive homes stir envy, remember that luxury alone tells you nothing certain about Allah’s approval of their owners.
• Keep temporary comforts in perspective, and give greater priority to the righteousness that matters for the Hereafter.

Turning away from remembering Allah is never neutral: a devil is assigned as a constant companion who makes the wrong road look right, until the regret comes on a Day when regret no longer helps. The Prophet ﷺ is reassured that his job is to deliver the message, not to force hearts.

• Do not treat turning away from remembrance as harmless. Test your confidence against guidance rather than assuming that feeling right means being right.
• Respond to guidance before regret becomes useless. A companion who encouraged wrongdoing cannot protect you from its consequences by sharing them.
• When sharing the message, focus on conveying it clearly rather than trying to force another person's belief.
• Do not make witnessing an outcome the measure of Allah's ability to fulfil His promise. Leave the final outcome to Him.

The Prophet ﷺ is told to grip the revelation tightly — it is the straight path — and that every messenger before him taught the same thing: worship Allah alone.

• When opposition makes following revelation difficult, renew your commitment instead of making people's approval your measure of guidance.
• Approach the Qur'an as a reminder to respond to, not merely a message to receive. Consider how your choices reflect that responsibility.
• Keep worship directed to Allah alone; worshipping others cannot be justified by appealing to the earlier prophets.
• Let steadfastness, accountability, and worship of Allah alone work together: remain committed to revelation, respond responsibly, and keep its central message clear.

Mūsā عليه السلام came to Firʿawn with sign after sign and was laughed at. When punishment came they begged for relief and promised to believe, then broke their word as soon as it lifted.

• Listen to the message and its evidence rather than allowing powerful people’s ridicule to decide what you accept.
• When guidance challenges your pride, examine your response instead of assuming that more evidence alone will change your heart.
• Let hardship prompt a return to Allah, not merely a search for relief while leaving your response to guidance unchanged.
• Follow through on commitments made during difficulty; continued obedience after relief matters more than urgent promises.

Firʿawn dismissed Mūsā عليه السلام for having no gold bracelets and no escort of angels — the same status-first thinking as Quraysh. He fooled his people, and they were drowned with him.

• Do not let wealth, rank or personal insults settle whether a message is true. Firʿawn displayed his possessions and belittled Mūsā instead of addressing the truth.
• Take responsibility for whom you obey. Being persuaded by a powerful leader does not remove your responsibility before Allah.
• Read the account as a warning for later generations, including your own: familiar signs of prestige must not become your measure of religious truth.

When ʿĪsā عليه السلام was raised in argument, the answer is plain: he was a servant Allah honoured and made a sign, not a rival to Him — and his return is one of the signs of the Hour.

• Before raising an objection, ask whether you want to understand the truth or simply win the exchange. Laughter and clever comparisons are not substitutes for an honest answer.
• Honour those Allah favours without giving them what belongs to Allah. Both human distinction and humanity’s place on earth depend on His will.
• Let signs of the Hour lead to steady obedience, not just curiosity about the future. Resist the distractions that pull you away from clear guidance.

After ʿĪsā عليه السلام brought clear proofs, the groups split over him. The Hour will arrive suddenly, and for those who did wrong the punishment is never eased; their plea to Mālik for an end is refused.

• Choose guidance by where it leads: resist Satan's diversion, and follow the messenger's call to fear and worship Allāh.
• Do not use disagreement around you as an excuse to dismiss clear guidance. Examine your own response and take responsibility for wrongdoing.
• Do not make readiness for the Hour a task for an imagined later time. Its sudden arrival makes present heedlessness dangerous.
• Take the warning seriously now rather than assuming punishment will eventually ease or death will provide an escape.

On that Day close friends turn on each other — except those whose friendship was built on obedience to Allah, who are welcomed with 'no fear upon you today'.

• Build close friendships around helping one another obey Allah, rather than around interests that pull you away from Him.
• Let Allah's reassurance encourage steady belief and submission. The passage directs hope towards His welcome, not towards social approval.
• Keep lasting enjoyment in view when weighing immediate desires. Paradise offers both abundant delight and a home that does not end.
• Treat daily choices as meaningful: the promise of Paradise is connected to how people lived and acted.

The truth was delivered plainly, but most people do not want it. Whatever they scheme in private is heard, and angels are writing it down.

• When a truth feels unwelcome, examine your willingness to accept it rather than assuming that the evidence is insufficient.
• Do not mistake careful planning or influence for control over the outcome. Plans against the truth do not go unanswered.
• Use the same care in private conversations that you would use in public. Being hidden from people does not remove accountability before Allah.
• Do not turn discomfort with the truth into efforts to undermine it. Pause and reconsider before drawing others into secret opposition.

The sūrah closes by denying outright that Allah has a son, affirming He alone is God in the heavens and the earth, and telling the Prophet ﷺ to leave the deniers with a dignified word: 'Peace.'

• Read a challenging statement alongside its explanation. The conditional about a son must be understood with the declaration that Allah is far above such claims.
• Let Allah's authority, rather than worldly status, guide your priorities: He alone deserves worship, owns everything, and is the One to whom you will return.
• Make your worship consistent with acknowledging Allah as your Creator. Do not place religious confidence in false deities; seek to understand and bear witness to the truth.
• When rejection persists, bring your distress to Allah and step away with peaceful speech. Restraint does not mean that wrongdoing has no reckoning.
