The tafsīr in brief

Indeed We have sent down to you the Book in truth, so worship Allah, sincere to Him in religion. Unquestionably, to Allah belongs pure religion. And those who take protectors besides Him say: we only worship them that they may bring us nearer to Allah in position. If you disbelieve, Allah is free of need of you — and He does not approve of disbelief for His servants; but if you are grateful He approves it for you. And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another.

• Let revelation guide both whom you worship and why you worship. Wanting closeness to Allah does not justify directing worship to someone else.
• Use the signs of creation—from the changing day to your own beginning—to renew devotion to Allah alone, rather than treating anything He created as His equal.
• Practise gratitude as someone who needs Allah, not someone doing Him a favour. Take responsibility for your actions and intentions, which He fully knows.
• Turn back to Allah when you have sinned, and keep turning to Him when hardship passes. His forgiveness invites repentance, while His warning challenges devotion that lasts only through difficulty.

Is one who is devoutly obedient during the night, prostrating and standing, fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the mercy of his Lord, like one who is not? Say: are those who know equal to those who do not know? Only they will remember who are people of understanding. Say: O My servants who have believed, fear your Lord. For those who do good in this world is good, and the earth of Allah is spacious. Indeed the patient will be given their reward without account. So give good tidings to My servants who listen to speech and follow the best of it.

• Let learning change what you worship and how you live. Listen with understanding, turn away from false worship, and put what you learn into practice.
• When obedience becomes difficult, do not assume every path is closed. Allah’s spacious earth offers room to protect faith, and the reward of patience is not limited by what you can calculate.
• Begin with your own submission rather than only calling others to it. Keep worship sincerely for Allah, and never treat religious standing as an exemption from obedience.
• Judge success and loss with the Hereafter in view. Let the warning move you away from sin and Allah’s unfailing promise keep you committed to fearing Him.

So is one whose breast Allah has expanded to Islam, so he is upon a light from his Lord? Woe to those whose hearts are hardened against the remembrance of Allah. Allah has sent down the best of statement — a consistent Book, paired, at which shiver the skins of those who fear their Lord, then their skins and hearts soften at the remembrance of Allah. That is the guidance of Allah by which He guides whom He wills.

• Let reminders reach beyond information. Notice how quickly worldly beauty passes, and approach the Qur'an ready to be moved by its warnings and softened by Allah's remembrance.
• Do not mistake present security for a safe final outcome. Remember death and accountability when deciding whether to persist in a wrong course.
• Use the Qur'an's clear examples to examine divided worship. When pressured to turn elsewhere, remember that the beings invoked besides Allah cannot overturn His will.
• Respond honestly when truth reaches you, and take responsibility for acting on it. The promise of forgiveness and generous reward gives a reason to do good, not to leave your response to someone else.

Say: O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed Allah forgives all sins. Indeed it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful. And return to your Lord and submit to Him before the punishment comes upon you, then you will not be helped. And those who disbelieved will be driven to Hell in throngs; and those who feared their Lord will be driven to Paradise in throngs, until when they reach it and its gates are opened, its keepers will say: peace be upon you, you have become pure, so enter it to abide eternally.

• Recognize your dependence on Allah in ordinary life, including sleep. Call upon Him for guidance rather than placing your ultimate trust in powerless substitutes.
• Treat prosperity as a responsibility, not proof that you deserve special favor. Let blessings produce obedience, remembering that possessions cannot buy escape from accountability.
• Let neither shame nor delay keep you from returning to Allah. Hope means beginning repentance and following His guidance now, not waiting for regret to make the decision for you.
• Do not trade devotion to Allah alone for acceptance from others. Remember His complete authority, reject pride, and express gratitude through worship.
• Take warnings seriously and keep working toward Allah's promised welcome. The final judgment is neither careless nor unjust: every deed is accounted for, and the passage ends in praise of Him.
