The tafsīr in brief

The surah opens by naming Allah Fāṭir — the One who brought the heavens and earth into being with no prior pattern — who makes the angels His messengers, with wings in pairs, threes, and fours, increasing in creation as He wills. Whatever mercy He opens for people, none can withhold; whatever He withholds, none can release after Him.

• Let the variety within creation deepen your praise of Allah rather than make you imagine limits to His power.
• When someone blocks an opportunity, do not treat them as the final controller of your good. Trust Allah without assuming that He has promised you that particular outcome.
• Make remembering blessings a path to worship: recognize the Provider, not just the provision you enjoy.
• Bring praise, dependence, and worship together: praise the One who originated creation, depend on Him for mercy, and direct your worship to Him alone.

The tafsīr in brief

The passage begins by steadying the Prophet ﷺ: if they call you a liar, messengers before you were called liars too, and all matters return to Allah. Then Allah's promise of the Hereafter is affirmed as true, so the life of this world must not deceive anyone, nor should the deceiver (al-gharūr, Shayṭān) deceive them about Allah. Shayṭān is named explicitly as an enemy to be taken as an enemy, calling his party only to be among the companions of the Blaze. Whoever seeks honour should know it belongs entirely to Allah — good words and righteous deeds rise to Him, while evil scheming collapses on its schemer.

• Keep calling to truth without making another person’s response the measure of your message. Rejection need not stop your effort or consume you with grief; judgment and guidance belong to Allah.
• Judge temptations by where they lead, not by how attractive they feel. Keep Allah’s promise in view and choose belief and righteous action over invitations that pull you away from Him.
• Let the sight of barren land becoming green remind you that resurrection is real, rather than passing over it as an ordinary change in the landscape.
• Seek honor from Allah by joining good words to righteous action. Do not trade obedience for the apparent advantage of an evil scheme.

Allah created humanity from dust, then a drop, then paired them; no one's life is extended or shortened except as recorded. He merges night into day and day into night, subjecting sun and moon to a set course, while the false gods people call on cannot own even the membrane of a date-stone. Rain brings out fruit of different colours, mountains show streaks of white, red, and jet-black, and living creatures likewise vary — and it is only those with true knowledge among His servants who fear Him, because they see this variety as evidence, not decoration.

• Let ordinary signs—your own life, water, and the passing day—renew gratitude and direct your prayers to the One who actually governs them.
• Replace self-sufficiency with humility and personal responsibility. You need Allāh, and neither family ties nor someone else's devotion can carry your burden.
• Seek to receive guidance, not merely hear it. When sharing it, convey truth with good news and warning without assuming you control another person's response.
• Do not treat rejection as evidence against the truth or as something without consequences. Earlier messengers faced denial despite bringing clear proofs.
• Make noticing creation part of learning about Allāh. Let its variety deepen reverence rather than allowing knowledge to remain only information.

Those who recite Allah's Book, establish prayer, and give in secret and openly hope for a trade that will never fail. Allah then gave the Book as an inheritance to those He chose from among His servants — dividing into three: one who wrongs himself, one who is moderate, and one who races ahead in good deeds by Allah's leave, and that is the greatest bounty. All three enter Gardens of Eden, adorned with gold and pearls, clothed in silk, saying: praise be to Allah who removed all grief from us, and lodged us in the Home of Permanence by His bounty, where no toil or weariness touches us.

• Let reading the Qur’an lead to prayer and generosity. Do not dismiss a small good deed: Allah appreciates it and can give far beyond its measure.
• Treat receiving the Qur’an as a responsibility to live by revealed truth, not merely a privilege to claim.
• Recognize your shortcomings without giving up hope. The promise includes believers who fall short, while the distinction between the three groups still encourages striving for good.
• Let the promise of lasting relief sustain you through sorrow and tiredness. Work toward Paradise with gratitude and dependence on Allah’s grace, not confidence that your deeds have paid its price.

For the disbelievers there is the Fire of Jahannam — never finished off by death, never lightened. They will cry out to be sent back to act righteously, and be told: did We not give you long enough life for anyone who would reflect to reflect, and did the warner not come to you? Their false partners created nothing, own no share of the heavens, and were given no scripture to stand on — the wrongdoers only promise each other delusion. Allah holds the heavens and earth from ceasing to exist; His way (sunnah) never changes or shifts, and if He seized people for what they have earned, He would not leave a single creature on earth — but He grants respite to a set term.

• Use the opportunity to change while it is available. The regret described here urges action now rather than confidence in a later chance.
• Treat extra time as a responsibility, not proof of success. Allah knows the heart, and the value of a longer life depends on how it is used.
• Do not mistake shared reassurance for evidence. Place trust in Allah, who sustains creation, rather than claims that have neither creative power nor revealed authority behind them.
• Meet warnings with humility rather than claims of superiority. Earlier nations show that arrogance, schemes and outward strength cannot secure anyone against Allah's judgment.
• Receive respite with gratitude and renewed obedience. A delayed reckoning is time granted by Allah, not wrongdoing overlooked by Him.
