The tafsīr in brief

Alif, Lām, Rā. A Book which We have sent down to you that you may bring mankind out of darknesses into the light by the permission of their Lord, to the path of the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy. Mūsā too was sent with this same charge to his people.

• When sharing guidance, explain it clearly and seek Allah’s help. Your responsibility to communicate does not mean you control another person’s response.
• Weigh worldly opportunities against the Hereafter. Neither personal gain nor concern for someone’s success should become a reason to obstruct Allah’s guidance.
• Approach revelation as guidance toward a changed way of life: leaving misguidance behind and moving toward faith and righteous action.
• Recall Allah’s favors deliberately, especially during difficulty. Let remembered blessings nurture gratitude, and meet present trials with patience.

The tafsīr in brief

Mūsā reminds his people of Allah's favour in saving them from Pharaoh's people, and relays the promise: if you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, then My punishment is indeed severe. Allah is independent of the gratitude of creation altogether.

• Make gratitude specific: remember a hardship Allah brought you through instead of letting relief become something you take for granted.
• Notice growth in faith and guidance alongside material blessings; an increase in good is not measured by possessions alone.
• Let remembering past favors shape your present response: appreciate them, and take the warning against denying them seriously.
• Approach gratitude as something you need, not something Allah needs from you. Your response does not change His perfection or worthiness of praise.

The peoples of Nūḥ, ʿĀd, Thamūd and those after them denied their messengers and tried to expel them, threatening: we will surely drive you out of our land, or you must return to our religion. Allah's reply came through revelation: We will surely destroy the wrongdoers and settle you in the land after them.

• Examine a message by its evidence rather than rejecting it because it challenges inherited habits or comes through a human messenger.
• When facing harm, join trust in Allah with patience. Seek His judgment instead of allowing the desire for personal revenge to direct your response.
• Do not mistake an oppressor’s present power for control over the outcome. Remain faithful while taking Allah’s warning seriously.
• Let the warning of the Hereafter challenge stubbornness now: earthly strength offers no protection from accountability before Allah.

The example of those who disbelieve in their Lord: their deeds are like ashes on which the wind blows fiercely on a stormy day; they cannot gain from what they earned in the least. Allah created the heavens and earth in truth, and if He willed He could remove all of creation and bring a new one — that is not difficult for Allah. On the Day they all appear before Allah, the weak will say to those who were arrogant, 'We were your followers, so can you avail us anything against Allah's punishment?' The arrogant will answer that they cannot save themselves either, so both share the punishment together.

• Do not treat good deeds as a substitute for faith. Give attention to the foundation on which your actions are built, not only to how impressive they look.
• When resurrection seems difficult to imagine, reflect on the creation of the heavens and earth rather than judging Allah’s power by human ability.
• Choose whom you follow responsibly. Another person’s influence does not remove your accountability for following them into error.
• Examine what you rely on for safety before Allah: neither deeds without faith nor powerful leaders can provide the protection imagined here.

On the Day of Judgement, Shayṭān will say to those who followed him: indeed, Allah had promised you the promise of truth, and I promised you and betrayed you; I had no authority over you except that I called you and you responded to me, so do not blame me but blame yourselves.

• Measure attractive promises against Allah’s guidance, rather than trusting what merely feeds your desires.
• Recognize temptation without using it as an excuse: answering an invitation to wrongdoing remains your choice.
• Do not mistake encouragement to do wrong for loyalty. Shayṭān will abandon the very people he persuaded to follow him.
• Before following a harmful influence, consider the consequences it cannot protect you from.

The tafsīr in brief

Those who believed and did righteous deeds will be admitted to gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein by permission of their Lord, their greeting therein being 'peace.'

• Let belief shape what you do: the people described in this promise combine faith with righteous deeds.
• Look beyond present hardship to the lasting outcome Allah promises, rather than measuring hope only by immediate comfort.
• Let the words “by permission of their Lord” nurture humility: the promised future depends on Allah’s granting it.
• Value peaceful speech in your relationships, reflecting on the honour given to peace as the greeting in the Gardens.

Have you not considered how Allah presents a parable, a good word like a good tree, its root firmly fixed and its branches in the sky, giving its fruit at all times by permission of its Lord. And the parable of an evil word is that of an evil tree, uprooted from the surface of the earth, unable to stand at all.

• Let faith shape both your inner convictions and your outward conduct. The tree's roots and fruit belong together: firm belief should find expression in good words and actions.
• Aim for regular goodness rather than occasional bursts, while remembering that its fruit comes by Allāh's permission.
• When weighing a message, look beyond its immediate appeal to its foundation and lasting value. The parable contrasts rooted faith with the instability of disbelief.
• Do not treat steadfastness as something you secure by yourself. Rely on Allāh, whose keeping believers firm extends beyond this life.

Have you not seen those who exchanged the favour of Allah for disbelief and led their people down to the home of ruin — Hell, where they burn, an evil place to settle. They set up rivals to Allah to mislead others from His way. Say: enjoy yourselves, for your destination is the Fire.

• Treat guidance as a blessing to receive gratefully, not merely something available around you. Having access to the message is not the same as accepting it.
• Consider where your influence takes other people. Advice and leadership carry responsibility because their effects reach beyond your own life.
• Examine whether attachment to a person or desire is taking the love, obedience, or reliance that belongs to Allah alone.
• Do not judge a path by the enjoyment it offers now. Weigh its final consequences rather than treating temporary pleasure as proof that it is right.

Say to My servants who have believed that they should establish prayer and spend from what We have provided them, secretly and publicly, before a Day comes in which there will be no bargaining and no friendship to rely upon.

• Give both worship and generosity a place in your life; care for people should accompany your devotion to Allah.
• Work on the quality of your prayer as well as its regularity, paying attention to its timing, humility, and movements.
• Remember relatives when planning your giving, alongside obligatory charity and kindness to others.
• Use what Allah has provided to prepare for the coming Day, rather than treating wealth or influential friends as protection from accountability.

Allah is the one who created the heavens and earth, sent down rain to bring forth fruits as provision, and put ships at your service to sail the sea by His command, and put the rivers at your service. He put the sun and moon, continuously orbiting, at your service, and put the night and day at your service. He gave you from all that you asked Him for, and if you tried to count the favour of Allah, you would not be able to enumerate it — indeed, mankind is truly unjust and ungrateful.

• Let ordinary food and water prompt gratitude: notice both the provision you receive and the means Allāh makes available to bring it to you.
• Do not wait for an unusual event to recognise a blessing. The steady benefits surrounding you each day also deserve conscious gratitude.
• Recognise particular blessings without imagining your list is complete; Allāh's giving exceeds what you can enumerate.
• Treat ingratitude as a tendency to correct through faith and conscious gratitude, not as an excuse to stop trying.

Ibrāhīm prays: my Lord, make this city secure, and keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols. He recounts settling some of his offspring in a barren valley near Your Sacred House, asking that their hearts be inclined with affection, that they be given provision, and that he and his parents and the believers be forgiven on the Day when the account is established.

• Include protection of faith in your prayers for family, not only safety and comfort. Loyalty to Ibrāhīm’s way means following his worship of Allah alone.
• Ask for provision that helps you obey Allah, and make steady prayer a shared goal for yourself and your descendants.
• Bring sincere intentions and gratitude into supplication: Allah knows your hidden concerns, and past gifts deserve praise alongside new requests.
• Let concern for the Day of Reckoning widen your prayers beyond yourself to the community of believers.

The tafsīr in brief

Allah instructs the Prophet ﷺ not to think Him unaware of what the wrongdoers do; He only delays them to a Day when eyes will stare in horror, necks stretched up, heads raised, hearts empty. The surah closes with the assurance that Allah is Mighty, capable of vengeance, and never fails His promise to His messengers.

• When injustice continues, do not measure Allah's awareness or faithfulness by how quickly punishment arrives. Trust His complete account and unfailing promise.
• Let the warning of fear and regret move you to answer Allah's call now, rather than postponing obedience until consequences become unavoidable.
• Treat the fate of earlier wrongdoers as a lesson for your own choices, not merely as someone else's history.
• Do not confuse a plan's strength or secrecy with freedom from accountability. Make your choices knowing that no plotting is hidden from Allah.

The tafsīr in brief

The Day the earth will be replaced by another earth, and the heavens as well, and mankind will come forth before Allah, the One, the Prevailing. You will see the criminals that Day bound together in chains, their garments of tar, and the Fire covering their faces — so that Allah may repay every soul for what it earned; indeed, Allah is swift in account. This is a notification for people, that they may be warned by it, and know that He is one God, and that people of understanding may take heed.

• Do not treat the familiar world as your lasting security. Remember that it will change and that all creatures will stand before Allah.
• Let the severe warning lead to a serious review of your deeds: the passage connects punishment to what people have earned.
• Take responsibility for your own choices rather than measuring yourself only against other people; every soul faces its own reckoning.
• Read the Qur’ān to receive guidance, not merely information: attend to its warnings, recognize Allah’s oneness, and put its reminders into practice.
