The tafsīr in brief

Allah swears by the glorious Qurʾān that the deniers' astonishment at resurrection is misplaced. He then turns their gaze to the sky above and the earth beneath them — both witnesses to a Creator who can equally re-create.

• Do not treat your own surprise as evidence that something is impossible. Give the Qurʾān’s message a hearing rather than dismissing what you find unfamiliar.
• Distinguish the limits of human understanding from Allah’s knowledge. When something troubles you, seek understanding rather than rejecting the truth.
• Make observing the sky and the earth an occasion for humble remembrance. These signs are meant to deepen insight, not merely attract your attention.
• Let rain, food, and new growth remind you both of Allah’s provision now and His power to bring life after death.

Long before Quraysh, the people of Nūḥ عليه السلام, the companions of the well (Raṣṣ), Thamūd, ʿĀd, Firʿawn, the brothers of Lūṭ عليه السلام, the people of the thicket, and the people of Tubbaʿ all denied their messengers — and the punishment they were warned of came true. Allah then asks: was He wearied by the first creation? No — yet these deniers are in confused doubt about a new creation (the resurrection).

• Read the accounts of earlier peoples as warnings to learn from, not merely names to remember. Their repeated denial calls us to examine how we respond to guidance.
• Take the messengers’ shared truth seriously. Rejecting one messenger is not separate from rejecting the message carried by the others.
• When resurrection seems difficult to imagine, return to the first creation. Our uncertainty does not place a limit on the Creator’s ability.

Allah created man and knows what his own soul whispers to him, being 'closer to him than his jugular vein'. Two angels sit, one on each side, recording — not a single word is uttered without a watcher present.

• Be honest with Allah about your inner struggles: silence does not conceal your thoughts from Him.
• Do not confuse an unwanted passing thought with acting on it. Ibn Kathīr cites the Prophet ﷺ teaching that this community is forgiven for inward thoughts so long as they are not spoken or acted upon.
• Practise the same care in private as in public. The recording of deeds and words does not depend on whether other people notice.
• Pause before speaking, especially when angry. Words are part of your accountability, not something separate from your conduct.

The agony (sakrah) of death arrives in truth — the very thing one used to flee. The Trumpet is blown, and on that Day every soul comes with a driver and a witness. The veil is removed, and sight becomes sharp.

• Do not confuse avoiding thoughts of death with preparing for it. Let its certainty challenge what you keep putting off.
• Take the warning of judgment personally: the Day concerns every soul, not only people whose disbelief seems obvious.
• Notice what makes you inattentive to the Hereafter, and address that neglect while you can choose to pay attention.
• Keep present choices connected to their larger horizon: death, judgment, personal arrival, and a clarity that leaves no room for avoidance.

The companion angel presents the record: 'This is what is with me, ready.' Allah then commands: 'Cast into Hell every obstinate disbeliever, every hinderer of good, transgressor, and doubter — who set up another god with Allah — so cast him into the severe punishment.'

• Take your deeds seriously even when others do not notice them: the record presented at judgement is complete, not selective.
• Examine whether pride is making you resist truth, and keep your worship devoted to Allah alone.
• Look for good you may be withholding or obstructing, including charity, family duties, and opportunities for guidance.
• Review your words and behaviour as well as your spending: crossing limits is not confined to one part of life.

The disbeliever's companion (his qarīn, or the recording angel) disowns responsibility for his misguidance. Hell is asked 'Are you full?' and answers 'Are there more?' — while Paradise is brought near for every penitent, mindful soul, with 'increase' promised from Allah.

• Take responsibility while there is time to respond to Allah's warning. Blaming an influence is no substitute for examining your own choices, and Allah's judgement is never unjust.
• Read the warning about Hell together with the welcome of Paradise. Let the contrast encourage both seriousness about wrongdoing and hope in the promised reward.
• Make returning to Allah a repeated practice, joined to keeping your commitments to Him. Give attention to the direction of your heart as well as your actions.
• Let the promise of lasting peace and abundant generosity strengthen your hope. The reward described here is neither temporary nor limited to what its people ask for.

Allah reminds that He destroyed generations before them who were far mightier in strength, and who roamed through the lands — yet found no refuge from the decree. In this is a reminder for anyone with a heart, or who listens attentively while present. The heavens, earth, and everything between them were created in six days, and no weariness touched Allah at all.

• Do not mistake wealth, influence or achievement for protection from accountability. Earlier nations possessed more and still could not escape Allah’s punishment.
• Make room for a reminder to reach you: set distractions aside and listen to understand, not merely to hear.
• When thinking about resurrection, consider the Creator’s power rather than the limits of human strength.
• Read accounts of past nations and signs in creation as reminders that call for a response, not simply as information to collect.

The closing address to the Prophet ﷺ: bear what they say patiently, glorify your Lord's praise before sunrise and before sunset, and in parts of the night — because he is not sent to compel belief, but only to remind those whose hearts still fear the warning.

• When hurtful words test your patience, make room for praise and prayer rather than allowing the conflict to occupy your whole day.
• Treat the warning of resurrection as something to prepare for now, not a distant claim to dismiss until it becomes visible.
• Let the certainty of returning to Allah shape your choices: death does not remove accountability, and gathering everyone is not difficult for Him.
• When sharing the faith, keep the Qurʾān central and offer reminders without trying to force a response.
