The Prophet's ﷺ household
Abū Ṭālib ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib
أبو طالب بن عبد المطلب
His ﷺ uncle and guardian after the death of ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib. He protected him for ten years of the call without accepting it himself.
Where they appear
- Going public — and the persecution
Refused Quraysh's demand to hand him over: 'By Allah, if they placed the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left…'
- The boycott and the Year of Sorrow
Took the whole of Banū Hāshim into the valley rather than surrender his nephew.
- The journey to Ṭāʾif and the Night Journey (al-Isrāʾ)
His death removed the Prophet's ﷺ tribal protection and opened the way to the Ṭāʾif journey.
How it ended
Died in Makkah in the same year as Khadījah رضي الله عنها, refusing the word of tawḥīd at the end.
