01By those lined up in ranksāyāt 1–11
An oath by the angels arranged in rows, driving clouds and reciting remembrance — that your God is truly One. Then the heaven adorned with stars and guarded, and the challenge: ask them, are they harder to create, or those We have created? The answer to arrogance begins with a look at scale.
02'You will find me, if Allah wills, of the patient'āyāt 99–113
asks for a righteous son and is given a forbearing boy. When the boy reaches the age of striving, the father says: I have seen in a dream that I am slaughtering you — what do you see? The son answers: do what you are commanded; you will find me, if Allah wills, of the patient. Both submit, the forehead is laid down, and the call comes: you have fulfilled the vision. And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice.
03Had he not been of those who glorifyāyāt 139–148
fled to the laden ship, the lot fell against him, and the fish swallowed him. Then the decisive line: had he not been of those who glorify Allah, he would have remained in its belly until the Day of Resurrection. He was cast onto the open shore while ill, a gourd plant was made to grow over him, and his people — a hundred thousand or more — believed and were given enjoyment for a time.
04Glory to your Lord, and peace upon the messengersāyāt 149–182
The claim that Allah has daughters is confronted directly: ask them — does your Lord have daughters while they have sons? Then the settled decree: Our word has already gone forth to Our servants, the messengers — they will surely be helped, and Our soldiers will be the victors. The surah closes with the three lines the salaf recited at the end of every gathering: glory to your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe; peace upon the messengers; and praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
