Bilāl رضي الله عنه ibn Rabāḥ رضي الله عنه
بلال بن رباح
An Abyssinian slave of Umayyah ibn Khalaf, tortured on the burning sand of Makkah for saying 'Aḥad, Aḥad' — One, One.
Where they appear
- Going public — and the persecution
Tortured publicly and refused to recant; freed by Abū Bakr رضي الله عنه.
- The Hijrah — migration to Madinah
Called the first adhān when the prayer call was instituted.
- Conquest, completion and farewell
Climbed the Kaʿbah at the conquest and called the adhān over Makkah.
How it ended
Bought and freed by Abū Bakr رضي الله عنه; became the muʾadhdhin of the Prophet ﷺ and gave the adhān on the roof of the Kaʿbah the day Makkah was taken.
