A merchant of Makkah, the first free man to believe, and the closest companion of the Prophet ﷺ.
Where they appear
- The Cave of Ḥirāʾ — the first revelation
Believed without hesitation when told, which is why he is called aṣ-Ṣiddīq.
- Going public — and the persecution
Bought and freed Bilāl رضي الله عنه and other tortured slaves; brought ʿUthmān رضي الله عنه, az-Zubayr, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf رضي الله عنه, Saʿd and Ṭalḥah رضي الله عنهم to Islam.
- The journey to Ṭāʾif and the Night Journey (al-Isrāʾ)
Confirmed the Night Journey the moment he heard of it, before hearing any detail.
- The Hijrah — migration to Madinah
The companion in the cave of Thawr during the Hijrah — 'the second of two, when they were in the cave'.
- Conquest, completion and farewell
Led the ḥajj of 9 AH and led the prayer in the Prophet's ﷺ final illness.
How it ended
