The Prophet's ﷺ household
Khadījah bint Khuwaylid رضي الله عنها
خديجة بنت خويلد
His ﷺ first wife, a merchant of Makkah who employed him before she married him, and the first human being to believe in him.
Where they appear
- The Cave of Ḥirāʾ — the first revelation
Answered his fear after Ḥirāʾ with an argument from his own character — 'you keep ties of kinship, carry the burden of the weak, honour the guest' — and took him to Waraqah.
- Going public — and the persecution
Funded the call and sheltered the household while Quraysh cut off trade with him.
- The boycott and the Year of Sorrow
Entered the valley of Abū Ṭālib with the clan and spent her wealth on it; died soon after it was lifted.
How it ended
Died in Makkah about three years before the Hijrah, shortly after the boycott ended — the loss that gave the Year of Sorrow its name.
