The four trials
What exactly is being tested, and how does a believer pass?
Faith, wealth, knowledge and power — the structure Sūrat al-Kahf lays out and the rest of the Qurʾān keeps returning to. Each trial is answered by the same posture: attribute it to Allah and hold to His people.
“Indeed, We have made that which is on the earth an adornment for it, that We may test which of them is best in deed.”Qurʾān 18:7

الصبرPatience is the posture the trial is asking for; the youths of the Cave and the grief of aḍ-Ḍuḥā are the same instruction at different pressures.
The Hour and the accounting
الآخرةA trial without a reckoning is meaningless. The four trials of al-Kahf all end at the same accounting al-Mulk describes.
Provision, wealth and the tongue that forgets
الرزقThe trial of wealth is the thread of provision read from its failure side — the tongue that forgot to say mā shāʾa Allāh.
One Lord, one dominion
التوحيدEvery trial resolves by attributing the thing back to its Owner — the trial is a question about dominion.
